HOW TO CONFIGURE MOT
Introduction
Gros Mot is a mixture of VCV and CVVC, therefore it should be quite similar to otoing a japanese voicebank. However, there are some quirks in French that pushed me to write this tutorial.
VCV
First phoneme [- sah]
The only values that will stay the same in this tutorial will be the overlap. The very minimum in overlap in 30ms, I personnaly like to use 100ms.
For the begining phoneme, place the overlap at a soundless point and the red line right after the consonnant or at the begining of the vowel if there's not consonnant. The pink part should cover the consonnant and the unstable part of the vowel. The blue coming from the right should cover the unstable end of the vowel.
Example [- kae]
Transition phonemes [ah luh]
Place the overlap where the vowel is starting to fade out into a consonnant. The red line goes after the consonnant. The pink cover the former vowel, the consonnant and the unstable part of the vowel.
Example [ae tae]
CVVC
CV [pah]
For the CVVC part, I like to use 30 as an overlap. You're free to choose your own value.
The blue part from the left should be right after the end of the previous vowel, the red line is after the consonnant.
Example [pee]
Glide CV [boi]
In a japanese bank, you would place the red line after the "y" sound. In French, however, the red line is placed right after the consonnant. Be wary, of the pink part, it should cover the whole unstable glidy thing.
Example [moi]
Ending VC [ah t]
In a regular japanese CVVC voicebank, the VC parts would only be used as a way to string together two different sounds. That way, the actual consonant part would be left out. In french however, it can also be used as an ending consonant. Including the actual consonant in the oto is crucial.
Place the overlap where the vowel is starting to fade out and put the red line where the vowel ends. Cover the entire sample with pink so that only silence is looped once in UTAU.
Example [oe d]
CC
I like to use the same overlap values as CVVC for CC.
Place the overlap on a soundless part and put the red line at the begining of the consonnant. Cover the whole sample with the pink and loop a soundless point.
